Attractions in Manchester


Manchester is known as the “second city” of England. Manchester Art Gallery

The Manchester Art Gallery is a wonderful place to visit for any art lover in the city. The gallery is open from 10am to 5pm on weekdays, from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays and closed on Mondays. It’s located just behind the Town Hall in Albert Square, so you don’t have far to walk if you’re staying near there!

This gallery has been around since 1753 when it first opened its doors as an exhibition space for local artists who wanted their work displayed outside of their studios. Today it houses some really impressive pieces by some famous artists such as John Constable (the father of English painting), Paul Sandby (who painted many views of Manchester) and George Stubbs (famous for his paintings of horses).

You’ll also find works by some lesser known but equally talented artists too like Edward Coley Burne-Jones II who did quite a lot during his lifetime including designing stained glass windows at New College Oxford University where he studied architecture before becoming an artist himself after marrying into money so that he could spend more time painting instead!

Whitworth Art Gallery and Museum

The Whitworth Art Gallery and Museum is a museum and art gallery in Manchester, England. It is run by the Whitworth Trust which was founded by William Whitworth to house his extensive collection of works by local artists.

The gallery is located on Whitworth Street, East Manchester, in the city’s Albert Square. It was opened on 25 October 2003 after four years of construction work costing £10 million (US$13 million).
